Bargain Barbie Toronto started out as an instagram account for fun where I documented clothing items/ outfits I really loved! As I become more interested in fashion I learned more about the large impact the fashion industry has on the environment. This sparked an interest for me in sustainable fashion and second hand shopping. I decided to pivot the contents of my account to thrifted items only. In November 2020 I was bored in lockdown and decided to buy a sewing machine and learn to sew. This quickly turned my Bargain Barbie account into a bit of a photo journal following along my journey trying to make clothing and thrift flip items. Now Bargain Barbie remains very similar to this but I’ve recently added a re-selling component and transitioning the account to a business.
“One thing I wish I had know about sewing as a young adult is how easy it is, which leads to how much money you can save by doing small repairs rather than throwing out and spending money on a brand new item.”
