SOS: Clean Your Dishwasher
The better we care for our appliances, products and assets, the longer they’ll work for us! Keeping your dishwasher clean prevents having to pre-wash, re-wash, or re-run dirty dishes resulting in cleaner dishes AND saving on water. Double win!
Scrape large food chunks off of dishes into the trash.
P.S. You don’t need to pre-rinse; according to the Cascade, the dish detergent brand—the enzymes in the detergent are specifically designed to attach themselves to the food particles on your dishes.
Clean out any food and gunk from the drainer/filter. On many dishwashers, the filter is removable and can be rinsed in the sink. This will majorly increase cleaning efficiency. Google for your dishwasher’s user manual to find out where the filter is.
Every few months, run a cup of white vinegar or a dishwashing cleaning agent of your choice through a hot cycle. The vinegar will break down bits of food, grease, soap scum and residue. Don’t do this too often as it can start to damage rubber seals and hoses if done too frequently.
Sprinkle one cup of baking soda along the bottom of the dishwasher and run one more short, hot cycle. This will remove stains and odour and freshen it up!
Finally, give it a good old scrub to get any spots that were missed.
